Jeffrey Scott Chiesa (pronounced Key-AY-zuh; born June 22, 1965) is the junior U.S. Senator from New Jersey and the former state attorney general of New Jersey. Governor Chris Christie announced on June 6, 2013 that he would appoint Chiesa to the United States Senate seat that was vacated by the death of Frank Lautenberg. [3] On June 10, 2013, Chiesa was sworn in as a Senator. [4] Previously, Chiesa was sworn in as attorney general on January 10, 2012. Prior to that appointment, he served as Chief Counsel to Governor Christie. He has declined to run for the remainder of the senate term in the 2013 Special Election.

Early life, education, and early law career

Chiesa grew up in Bound Brook, New Jersey, the eldest of three children. When he was 8 years old, his father, a chemical plant worker, died, and he was raised by his mother, a public school teacher. [5] He graduated from University of Notre Dame in 1987 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting. He earned his J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America in 1990.

In 1988, Chiesa joined the Cranford law firm of Dughi, Hewit & Palatucci (now known as Dughi & Hewit). There he met Chris Christie, who had joined the firm the year before. [6]

Eugene Louis Dodaro (born May 7, 1951) is the Comptroller General of the United States and head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). From October 1, 2000 until March 12, 2008 he was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the GAO and he held the equivalent 2nd-in-command title before the late 2000 restructuring of the GAO, Principal Assistant Comptroller General, a title he had held since May 1999. (Note that this change of titles is a result of the organization-wide restructuring rather than a promotion or other event in his career; from May 1999 through to March 12, 2008 Dodaro retained the position of second in command of the GAO.)

On February 15, 2008 when the seventh Comptroller General of the United States, David M. Walker, announced that he was departing from his office before the end of his 15-year term to work for the The Peter G. Peterson Foundation, he appointed Dodaro to replace him. On March 13, 2008 Dodaro became the Acting Comptroller General [1] and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate for a term of fifteen years on December 22, 2010. [2]

Gene is the son of Jim and Betty Dodaro and grew up in the Monessen—Belle Vernon region of Pennsylvania, attending Belle Vernon Area High School where he played basketball. [3]

Career history

Mr. Dodaro joined the GAO in 1973. [6] His first executive posting was as an associate director for management issues in the General Government Division. [5] In 1993 he was named Assistant Comptroller General for Accounting and Information Management. [7] It was in 1999 that he became the GAO’s second in command. [7]

In 1981 Dodaro received the GAO’s Meritorious Service Award. [5] In 1989 he received the Arthur S. Flemming Award for outstanding individual performance in government. [6] In 2001 he became a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and in 2003 was awarded the prestigious National Public Service Award conferred by that organization. [8]

Mr. Dodaro is also an alumnus of the Psi chapter of the national social fraternity Kappa Delta Rho at Lycoming College. [citation needed]
